General Conference

Every six months my church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Mormons) holds a General Conference where all of the leaders of the church speak on a variety of topics they feel are important for our time.  I equate it to if the Pope were to speak to all of the Catholics in the world at once.

Since our church is so large (approx. 14 million members), the conference is broadcast via the internet, satellite, television and radio.  Jeff and I never watch TV so we don't have the cable channel that carries it and usually just watch the conference via the internet while in our PJs, eating enormous amounts of food.

This year's conference was particularly wonderful.  Jeff and I have been struggling with several life questions lately and decided to write them down prior to watching the conference.  We listened intently to every talk through all four, two-hour sessions and received answers to each of our questions.  We were also strengthened spiritually and emotionally to actually be able to do something with the answers we received.  The conference is always good, but this was an especially good experience.

Here is a link to one of my favorite talks given last weekend by President Uchtdorf.  I love his analogies of life and flying airplanes - I think he mentions flying an airplane in every talk he gives.

  1. We really enjoyed going to Conference this year. We fly in late Thursday night, then on Friday we go to all the places we like to shop in Utah, then go to Conference Saturday and Sunday and try an get bumped coming home. We usually are successful at it, but not this time. Anyway, we'd like it if you and Jeffrey would go with us some April or if that's a bad time of year for you, then in October. Let us know if you'd like to go with us. Corinne

  2. I'm super jealous. We were able to "watch" conference with Dan's family, which means the adults sat on the couch and tried to get something out of it while about 20 kids ran around. Fun, but not the ideal situation to get some inspiration... Luckily there's the internet and the Ensign!
